 By JACKIE NOBLETT “Today if you are serious about having a mobile app, you have to be on Android as well as iOS,” says Scott Ellison, VP of mobile and consumer connected platforms at IDC. In fact, over half of the 100 financial executives surveyed by Corporate Insight say they plan to add an Android phone or tablet app in the next 12 months, according to a new report published this month. In comparison, 44% of respondents say their firm plans to add an iPad app. Android devices are not new to more mass-market, consumer-focused parts of the financial services industry such as retail banks and discount brokerages. Asset managers tend to follow their counterparts in the bank and brokerage industry when it comes to technology strategy, features and functionality, and that trend seems to be continuing with mobile devices, says Daniel Wiegand, senior analyst at Corporate Insight.
