Mobile finance is all about convenience. While brokerages rightly keep certain features like account details and holdings secure behind login, investors shouldn’t need to pass security steps to check basic market data. In fact, some leading brokerages now provide widgets that offer this data without even opening their apps. Charles Schwab’s most recent update to its Android app included a new Quick Quote widget. The only other widgets on the market from major brokerages come from E*TRADE, Merrill Lynch and Merrill Edge.
 
These widgets are designed to present daily market data (and company branding) on the Android device’s home screen alongside other frequently-used apps. By default, they show major indices such as the Dow, but can be customized with additional security symbols.
