The team works with clients on a range of assignments that most often utilize our four primary methodologies:


  • We use benchmarking to quickly determine gaps in the client’s offerings—fees, Website functionality, customer service responsiveness, statement quality, etc.—versus those of its competitors. Benchmarking often leads to more in-depth competitor analysis. Our innovative Website Audit takes the benchmarking process even further.
  • A best practices analysis enables clients to understand how industry leaders operate and is most effective after a benchmarking review. While benchmarking reveals a competitor’s strengths, a best practices analysis will dig into those strengths and identify their key drivers. The result: clients can adopt leading-edge techniques and turn weaknesses into competitive advantages.
  • Since a company’s stated practices frequently differ from reality, we use mystery shopping—in which we pose as the customer—to find out what the company’s customers actually experience. These engagements have helped clients see their own sales practices (as well as those of their competitors) up close and improve them as needed.
  • Our competitor profiling gives clients a comprehensive assessment of the competitive landscape for numerous purposes, notably if they’re considering a major strategic initiative. We generate the big-picture view clients need to set strategy.
It’s common for these methodologies to overlap. Mystery shopping, for example, regularly focuses on determining best practices and sometimes on benchmarking—which tends to include competitor profiling. The nature of each assignment helps clients determine the mix of methodologies that works best for them.
