This e-Monitor Report looks at online transaction history provided on e-Monitor sites. We examined online account history, not including printed statements, a feature that is offered by all nineteen firms within the e-Monitor coverage group. We considered the following criteria when assessing a firm’s transaction history:
-
Design and functionality
-
Transaction details
-
Filters
-
Search options
Of the 19 e-Monitor firms that offer online transaction history, the scope and detail of history offered varies tremendously. The bare minimum history offered by every firm is a list of recent transactions with some information about each including date, amount and price. Less than half of firms, only 47%, list trade commissions in their transaction history. Only five provide individual detailed pages for each transaction – an especially useful feature.
All firms offer some type of basic filtering or browsing options. Seventeen firms provide clients with the ability to filter for only trades. A search function is provided by 13 of the firms; each of which offers at least the option to search by symbol.
A running net account balance after each transaction is provided by four firms. Several other firms provide an overall account value or cash balance total within their account transaction history section.
Additional key findings include:
-
The average transaction archive is 1.5 years across all firms; two firms offer history for the length of account.
-
Two firms offer more than one transaction history
-
A filter to display all transactions is provided by 73% of firms.
